  • Authentic spiritual guidance can be deeply supportive, but finding trustworthy teachers has become increasingly difficult. Across many spiritual traditions, there have been well-documented cases of financial exploitation, abuse of power, narcissism, coercive control, sexual misconduct, and the misuse of spiritual teachings to manipulate or silence others. Charisma, popularity, or large followings are not reliable indicators of wisdom, integrity, or ethical leadership.

  • This directory has been thoughtfully curated to highlight teachers, organizations, and contemplative communities that demonstrate a long-standing commitment to ethical practice, humility, compassion, and psychological maturity. While no teacher or tradition is beyond healthy questioning, these recommendations reflect individuals and communities that have earned trust through their integrity, transparency, and respect for the dignity and autonomy of those they serve.

  • At Yogi Counseling, we believe that healthy spirituality should foster greater freedom, self-awareness, critical thinking, and compassion rather than dependency, fear, or unquestioning devotion. We encourage every individual to approach spiritual learning with both an open heart and a discerning mind, recognizing that authentic teachers empower others to develop wisdom within themselves rather than creating followers who become dependent upon them. We also take feedback well. If you encounter something that feels not right about any teacher or organization we recommend, we want to hear about it.
